Stuck on pokemon pearl please help?

right now im at hearthome city. the south exit is blocked by the tv guys and the east exit is blocked by the people who talk about the pokemon eggs. i already talked to the girl outside of the contest hall and went in and talked to mom, but i didn't do a contest. also i haven't gone to amity square yet. im not sure what im supposed to do at this point
